Is it illegal to download sheet music from the web for free?

I found some sheet music for free on the internet and then I printed it out and my mom told me that was illegal. I showed her that there was no copyright symbol on it and that it was probably ok. She told me I should look it up on the internet and find out. So, is it illegal or not?

    I don’t believe so unless the composer didn’t want it mass produced… but you can get lyrics and tabs and everything else online so I don’t see why this would be a problem… so many fans sit there and put this stuff together.
